Pioneer Coal 100 at
Riverside Speedway June 9th
Antigonish, NS (June
6, 2007) – Round two of the 2007 CARQUEST Pro Stock
Tour is set for Saturday, June 9th at
Riverside Speedway in James River, NS, with the
running of the Pioneer Coal 100. Race time is 6 pm,
with the Atlantic Tiltload time trials at 5:10 pm.
Wayne Smith of
Timberlea, NS, known as the Oval Outlaw, won the
season opener at Scotia Speedworld on May 26th
and is out to make it two in a row. Shawn Tucker of
Fredericton, NB and Mike MacKenzie of Dartmouth, NS,
currently second and third in points, hope to
wrestle the victory from Smith on the high banks of
Riverside Speedway. Add Shawn Turple of Enfield, NS
in his new ride and 2007 EIT Race Radios Rookie of
the Year candidate Lonnie Sommerville of Saint John,
NB makes a stout group of drivers gunning for the
Oval Outlaw.
If home track
knowledge is an advantage, the Nova Construction
team of Donald Chisholm of Antigonish, NS and George
Koszulics of New Glasgow, NS has to be considered as
potential candidates to win. Throw in Pictou, NS
Rollie MacDonald, who has more laps at Riverside
Speedway than any other driver competing in the race
and the locals have an excellent chance to grab a
win.
Veteran drive Frank
Fraser of Shubenacadie, NS is hoping his luck is
better when he returns to Riverside Speedway, the
site of many past successes. Fraser’s car developed
fuel problems at Scotia Speedworld on May 26th,
when he made his return to racing as a driver.
To date, thirty-four cars have
registered for the Pioneer Coal 100, including 2006
champion John Flemming. A strong contingent of
Prince Edward Island cars led by Greg Proude of
North Wiltshire, Chris Hughes of Winsloe, and Kent
Vincent of Crapaud will be on hand to battle for the
win. Brad Mann of Glen Livet, NB and Stacey Clements
of Five Island Lake, NS complete the current top ten
teams in the 2007 points race. All are capable of
coming away with the winner’s trophy.
Pioneer Coal is part of the
Antigonish, NS based Nova Construction Group, which
includes Antigonish Mall and Riverside Speedway.
Pioneer Coal is an experienced surface coal mining
company with a demonstrated ability to successfully
