SMITH WINS THE CARQUEST 100 AT RACEWAY PARK

Bed Bridge, PE (August 25, 2007) -Wayne Smith of
Timberlea, NS won the CARQUEST 100 for the CARQUEST
Pro Stock Tour at Raceway Park in Oyster Bed Bridge,
PE on Saturday night. Smith took the lead on lap
28 and set a blistering pace enroute to his fifth
victory of the season. Kent Vincent of Crapaud, PE
led early and held on for second, ahead of Kris
Fournier of Charlottetown, PE. Shawun Tucker of
Fredericton, NB and Shawn Turple of Enfield, NS.
Fournier’s third place finish was his best career
finish.
Smith won the Most Laps Led Award. Over 2000 fans
saw only 5 cautions slow the event, down
considerably from the last tour event at the newly
paved facility. It took only thirty nine minutes to
complete the CARQUEST 100
Roger Crane of Motague, PE and Lonnie
Sommerville of Fredericton, NB won heat races.
Chris Hughes of Brackley, PE won the Dash for the
Pole, featuring the top eight finishers in the
Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials. Smith also had the
fastest time on the 1/4 mile oval, at an average
speed of nearly 67 miles per hour. None of the five
eligible participants opted to take the Pole
Challenge.
Twenty six of the Maritimes top drivers attempted to
qualify for the Main Feature.
After a week’s hiatus, the CARQUEST Pro
Stock Tour will return to action for the final time
of the 2007 season on September 8th at
6:00 p.m. at Scotia Speedworld, near Halifax, NS.
The Parts for Trucks 200 will determine both the
2007 Champion and the Parts for Trucks Challenge
Champion.
