SMITH WINS
ANTIGONISH MALL 100 AT RIVERSIDE SPEEDWAY
James River, NS (August
19, 2007) -
Wayne
Smith of Timberlea won the ANTIGONISH MALL 100 for
the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour at Riverside Speedway,
near Antigonish, NS on Sunday afternoon. Smith took
the lead on lap 19 and never looked back to take his
fourth win of the season. Kent Vincent of Crapaud
PEI finished second, ahead of Fredericton's Shawn
Tucker. Shawn Turple of Enfield and Chris Hughes of
Brackley PEI rounded out the top five.
Smith won the Most
Laps Led Award. Over 3500 fans saw 5 cautions,
including one for a 20-minute rain delay, slow the
event which took one hour and 26 minutes to
complete.
Antigonish's Donald
Chisholm, Tucker and Dale Holmes of West Covehead
PEI won heat races. Vincent won the Dash for the
Pole, featuring the top nine finishers in the
Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials. Vincent also had the
fastest time on the 1/3 mile oval, at an average
speed of nearly 94 miles per hour. Lonnie
Sommerville of St. John NB took the Pole Challenge
and came back to finish eighth.
Twenty nine of the
Maritimes top drivers attempted to qualify for the
Main Feature. The Urquart MacDonald Associates "B"
Feature determined the final qualifying positions
for the main event. Mike Stevens of Salisbury, NB
won the race over Dana Duncan of Saint John, NB. and
Darren Vanderaa of Winsloe PEI.
The CARQUEST Pro
Stock Tour returns to action for it's second last
stop of the season next Saturday, August 25th at the
newly paved Raceway Park, locater in Oyster Bed
Bridge, PE.
