Halifax,
NS (August 14, 2006) – The CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour rolls
into Riverside Speedway as it has many times before, but no one
has been this excited before. This visit will see the inaugural
race on the re-built Riverside Speedway, which everyone has been
waiting all season to see.
The
Antigonish Mall 200 will be run on Saturday, August 19th at the
James River, NS track, which is essentially a brand new
facility. The only thing remaining from the original facility is
the layout of the track. Everything else is brand new and just
waiting for the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour’s teams.
John Chisholm
and his staff are to be congratulated for bringing this historic
track back to its glory. Riverside Speedway is well known in
racing circles and has hosted some epic battles in its years.
John Flemming,
Halifax NS is the current Tour points leader as the Tour drivers
arrive at Riverside Speedway. Brad Mann, Glen Livet NB, Gordie
Ryan, Wellington NS, Wayne Smith, Timberlea, NS and Shawn
Tucker, Fredericton NB round out the top five. While all five
will be looking to maximize their points at this event, they all
would love to be the winner of the first race at the re-built
Riverside Speedway.
If local
knowledge means anything, Rollie MacDonald, Pictou NS, Donald
Chisholm, Antigonish NS and George Koszkulics, New Glasgow NS,
must be considered among those who are capable of winning on
Saturday night. The new asphalt may change the tracks
characteristics enough to make it just as friendly to a driver
with less experience at the track. This may help Kent Vincent,
Crapaud PE, Dan MacKay, Halifax NS, Greg Proude, North
Wiltshire, PE, Shawn Turple, Enfield NS and Kris Fournier,
Charlottetown PE, who sit sixth to tenth in points.
The CARQUEST
drivers will be racing for their share of the $22,500 purse,
with $3,200 going to the winner. The Motor Mart Dash for Cash is
up for grabs, as is the Fast Track RV Sales half-way award, the
Atlantic Tiltload Hard Charger and Most Lap Led awards, the
Urquhart MacDonald Associates B Feature award and the
Northumberland Pontiac Buick GMC Pole Challenge.
Russell
Smith, Lakeside NS, Bobby Nielsen, Vernon River PE, Mike
Stevens, Riverview NB, Sandy Livingston, Springhill NS and Roger
Crane, Montague PE, are all in the hunt for the EIT Race Radio
Rookie of the Race award and ultimately the prestige of being
the EIT Race Radio Rookie of the Year.
Time Trials
start at 5:10 PM, with racing starting at 6 PM.
Riverside
Speedway is located at exit 30, Highway 104, east of Antigonish.
